After dominating the ACC in 2015, it should come as no surprise that Clemson dominated the conference’s postseason awards.
On Wednesday, the league announced its postseason awards as voted on by the coaches and the top-seeded Tigers (13-0) took home coach of the year, player of the year and offensive player of the year honors, while landing nine players on the all-ACC first-team alone.
Clemson’s Dabo Swinney was named the coach of the year by a vote of 11-3 over North Carolina’s Larry Fedora. Swinney, who on Saturday beat UNC, 45-37,in the ACC Championship, was also named the Home Depot Coach of the Year on Wednesday.
Tigers' quarterback Deshaun Watson, one of three Heisman finalists, earned the ACC Player of the Year and the Offensive Player of the Year awards.
Watson leads the ACC with 3,512 passing yards and 30 touchdowns and has rushed for 850 yards this season to rank ninth nationally in total yards per game.
North Carolina QB Marquise Williams and Florida State running back Dalvin Cook tied for second in the player of the year voting with two votes each. Williams also received two votes for offensive player of the year, while Cook got one.
Duke safety Jeremy Cash edged out Clemson defensive end Shaq Lawson for the ACC Defensive Player of the Year, getting six votes to Lawson’s five.
Cash racked up 101 tackles this season, while his 18 tackles for a loss ranks in the top 10 nationally and is the most by any defensive back.
Pitt’s freshmen duo of safety Jordan Whitehead and running back Qadree Ollison split the rookie of the year voting with five votes apiece. However, Whitehead would be named the defensive rookie of the year, while Ollison was voted the top offensive rookie.
Whitehead tallied 99 tackles for Panthers and helped guide them to their first eight-win season since 2010.
Ollison was thrust into action when star running back James Conner went down with a season-ending knee injury in Week 1 and stepped up to the challenge. The freshman RB was fourth in the ACC with 1,041 rushing yards and reached the end zone 10 times.
