Players to Watch

Kansas City's biggest question heading into this matchup is how clean the pocket will be, and that puts Mahomes at the center of everything. He is still on track to start the opener after knee surgery, with Andy Reid saying he has a pretty good chance to go. That matters even more because Josh Simmons has a good chance to sit, which could leave Mahomes dealing with extra heat off the edge.

When Mahomes is right, he changes the geometry of the field in a flash. If he handles pressure and keeps the Chiefs on schedule, Kansas City can control the tone of the game from the opening possessions.

Bo Nix has a new toy on the outside, and it drives really fast. Jaylen Waddle was traded from the Miami Dolphins to the Denver Broncos in the offseason, and he brings a totally different element to Sean Payton's offense. In Waddle's last season with the Dolphins, he had 910 receiving yards and six touchdowns. Now, he joins a Broncos receiving corps of Courtland Sutton, Troy Franklin and Evan Engram.

Nix could have a great welcome back to this offense with his new weapon in Waddle. If the Broncos want to return to the AFC Championship, they'll want this Waddle acquisition to pay off big time.
