Jerry Jones bought himself a custom Cowboys-themed helicopter

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has purchased himself a shiny new, team-themed helicopter to be used for his travels around Dallas this season and beyond.

It seems Jones was pretty sick of the hour-long drive from the team's headquarters to the stadium, so he invested in a custom-made H145 from Airbus Helicopters. In a press conference with the media, Jones called the copter "a tool that we want to really use to be a part of the function of the franchise."

To be honest, I'm  surprised that Jones didn't own a helicopter already. I guess I just assumed that you get your own helicopter as soon as you join the billionaires club. I certainly wouldn't know any better.

The H145 base model starts at around $8.5 million, but Jones presumably dished out significantly more considering all the Cowboys specifications. It's hard to imagine Jerry Jones rocking with a "base model" of anything.

"It is state-of-the-art," Jones said, according to ESPN. "Certainly it's novel because not many of us ride in helicopters, but this is multiuse, has the best power, has the best speed, has the best range. We're excited about that, and if we could just figure out a way for it to help us make some first downs, we'd really appreciate it."

The white chopper features the Cowboys logo on the tail and has light gray leather seats and carpet inside.

"To me it kind of says a little bit about the glitz — the glamour, if you will — of the Dallas Cowboys," said Jones on Thursday. On the less glamorous side, he also said this:

As strange as this all seems, if there's any team in the league that would be most expected to hold a press conference surrounding the purchase of a new helicopter, it's the Cowboys. Hopefully the bird runs stronger and smoother than the team has in the past handful of years.
