Revis to make Bucs debut vs. Jets
Tampa Bay cornerback Darrelle Revis will make his Buccaneers’ debut against his former team.
A source told FOX Sports on Saturday that Revis will not play in the preseason as he continues recovering from 2012 knee surgery. He is slated to return in the Sept. 8 regular-season opener against the New York Jets, who traded Revis to the Buccaneers during the offseason.
Revis returned to practice this week but was held out of Saturday night’s road matchup against Miami at Sun Life Stadium. Revis also didn’t dress for the first two preseason games.
A three-time All-Pro selection and the 2009 NFL Defensive Player of the Year during his six seasons with the Jets, Revis suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament last September against the Dolphins. Concerned about the ability to sign Revis to a long-term contract beyond this season, the Jets dealt him to Tampa Bay for a 2013 first-round draft pick and 2014 conditional pick.
Revis, 28, signed a six-year, $96 million contract extension with the Buccaneers when the trade was completed.
