Won't start in Week 2 Chriss-Gremillion won't start in Week 2 against South Alabama as the Green Wave turn to Kadin Semonza as their starter, per Guerry Smith of The New Orleans Advocate.

Impact Chriss-Gremillion was pulled in Tulane's Week 1 loss at the hands of Duke after failing to kickstart the Green Wave offense. When he was pulled for Semonza, he had thrown for 64 yards on 6-of-9 passing and ran for 15 yards. Semonza will get a shot to orchestrate Tulane's offense against a much weaker opponent.

Impact Chriss-Gremillion was pulled to begin the second half as backup Kadin Semonza replaced him and finished the game Saturday. Neither quarterback could lead the Green Wave offense to its first touchdown of the 2026 campaign. Chriss-Gremillion earned the starting job over Semonza during fall camp, but following his early struggles and benching, head coach Will Hall could potentially have the two compete once again in practice before next Saturday's matchup against South Alabama.

Impact Tulane will open the season with ex-Power Conference player Chriss-Gremillion, even though his primary quarterback competition, Kadin Semonza, has much more FBS experience. During the former's time with Houston, he was quite turnover-prone, finishing his two-season UH tenure with a 5-9 TD-INT ratio. But if Chriss-Gremillion can clean that up, he can be a sneakily great option at Duke, as his running offers promise. In his best season for Houston, 2024, he logged 114 rushing attempts for 388 yards (3.4 per carry) and four touchdowns, showing dual-threat talent without the passing-game consistency.

Committing to Tulane Chriss has committed to play for Tulane for the 2026 season, per Matt Zenitz of CBSSports.com.

Impact Chriss will join the Green Wave following two seasons with Houston. The 6-foot-3 quarterback appeared in six games for the Cougars in 2025, throwing for 108 yards and one touchdown with one interception to go along with 79 scoreless rushing yards as well. The former Louisiana transfer will retain a single year of eligibility at his next destination.

Shows promise in relief Chriss was 5-for-13 passing for 93 yards, one touchdown and one interception during Saturday's 35-11 loss versus Texas Tech. He also had seven rushes for 59 yards.

Impact Starting quarterback Conner Weigman left Saturday's game in the second quarter with a concussion, so Chriss came in and led the offense for the rest of the game. On just his second play after entering the game he found Amare Thomas for a 64-yard touchdown, then converted the two-point conversion to cut the deficit to 14 heading into halftime. He only completed five of his 13 pass attempts and threw an interception, but he added 59 yards on the ground versus a very strong Red Raider defense. With Weigman in concussion protocol it is likely that Chriss will start Saturday at Oklahoma State, a very favorable matchup for him and the Cougars' offense.

Impact Although Chriss scored twice with his feet, he was unable to do enough o defeat BYU. Houston looked slightly better as the season continued, and at certain points, it looked like Chriss gave the Cougars a better chance to win, but his passing ability remained a major question mark. It would surprising if Houston didn't make a concerted effort to find a quarterback in the transfer portal, which already has viable candidates like USC's Miller Moss opting in.

Impact While Houston's defense is strong, the offense has been horrendous. Donovan Smith's poor play to begin the season put them into a hole they couldn't dig out of, and while Zeon Chriss was a modest improvement, he also had his share of subpar performances. Houston will probably scour the transfer portal to find other options in the offseason, and its a scenario where a sophomore like Chriss might try to find another program.

Impact Although Chriss has improved the Cougars' offense, his contribution wasn't enough to make a dent in the final score. Houston's defense is usually the team's saving race, but they barely showed up in the blowout loss. Chriss will probably hold on to the job due to his dual-threat skills, but it's a tenuous hold at best.

Winning two straight games seemed like a tall order before Chriss took over for Donovan Smith, but the team has found a way to win despite the obvious limitations of the offense. The Cougars will regroup on the bye week as they face tough stretch of games coming up. There's a sliver of hope for bowl contention if they can go 3-0 to end the season, but wins over Baylor and BYU are unlikely.

Even though the team has moved on from Donovan Smith, Chriss is not getting the job done through the air either. He was able to toss two short passes for touchdowns, but generated only 106 yards of total offense in the narrow win.
