Ben Finley - Inefficient in defeat Finley completed 16 of 38 passes for 139 yards and one interception during Thursday's 10-0 defeat to Wyoming. He also had six rushes for negative four yards.
Impact Finley struggled in the Zips' season opener against the Cowboys, logging no touchdowns and throwing an interceptions. On top of that, he also completed just 42 percent of passes, which is worse than all but one of his outings from last season. The season-opening loss shouldn't be too much of a concern for the 6-foot-3 quarterback, but he will need to get things back on track if the Zips hope to compete at Nebraska next Saturday.

Michael Johnson Jr. - Sees rushing role in loss Johnson had four rushes for 21 yards during Thursday's 10-0 loss against Wyoming.
Impact Johnson looked relatively buried in Akron's QB depth chart heading into the season, but it appears he could have a rushing role of some kind with four carries against the Cowboys. Even though the redshirt senior wasn't a huge proponent of the Zips' offense, his involvement as a change-of-pace rusher could be something to look out for at the year progresses.

Impact During the Wyoming team's spring game, Hamilton suffered a broken arm, and it appears to be continually problematic. The running back will continue to sit out indefinitely.

Sam Scott - Leads backfield in opener Scott logged 29 carries for 132 yards during Thursday's 10-0 win versus Akron.
Impact The Cowboys were expected to utilize a committee out of the backfield to open the season, though that certainly wasn't the case Thursday -- Scott saw a career-high 29 carries compared to just two for Terron Kellman. It looks like the senior running back will be leaned on heavily this season after rushing for 435 yards with three touchdowns on 92 carries in 2024.

Chris Durr Jr. - Huge day in win Durr reeled in 8 of 10 targets for 190 yards and a touchdown during Thursday's 10-0 win over Akron.
Impact Durr was Kaden Anderson's clear top option Thursday, as he accounted for 190 of Wyoming's 260 passing yards. Two of Durr's biggest plays came on one drive in the fourth quarter -- he opened the possession with a 44-yard reception before taking a screen pass 35 yards for a touchdown. The sophomore Durr looks poised for a big year after logging 31 receptions for 348 yards and a touchdown as a true freshman.

Kaden Anderson - Shaky in opening win Anderson was 19-for-36 passing for 260 yards, a touchdown and an interception during Thursday's 10-0 win over Akron. He also had four rushes for 20 yards.
Impact Anderson got off to a slow start as the Cowboys were held to a field goal through the first three quarters. However, the sophomore looked better late, throwing for 129 yards in the fourth quarter and connecting with Chris Durr for Wyoming's lone touchdown. Anderson took over the starting job in Laramie as a freshman midway through last season and completed 58.3 percent of his passes for 955 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions. He should put up better numbers next week in a home matchup with Northern Iowa.
