Kenny Odom - Bright spot in UTEP opener Odom caught nine passes on 14 targets for 97 yards and a touchdown against Utah State on Saturday. He also ran twice for 16 yards.

Impact Odom was part of the Austin Peay influx at UTEP last season, and he had 46 catches for 741 yards and eight touchdowns. The production was good in this game, but the targets are really encouraging. So is the fact it seems Kam Thomas has been moved to running back. Odom is going to be the guy for the Miners this year.

Hahsaun Wilson - Forget the hype Wilson got zero carries and had one catch for two yards on one target against Utah State on Saturday.

Impact Last year, Wilson averaged 6.1 yards per carry and scored seven touchdowns for Charlotte. He joined UTEP and got a lot of hype after spring. Well, in the Miners' opener he got one touch, and no carries. Four players did get carries. It seems the Wilson hype won't come to fruition.

Kam Thomas - Is Thomas a RB now? Thomas caught four passes for 26 yards, but also ran 16 times for 36 yards Saturday against Utah State.

Impact This is interesting. Thomas has been a wide receiver, and a pretty good one at that. Last year, after joining his head coach in moving from Austin Peay to UTEP, he had 47 catches for 532 yards in nine games. Thomas would carry the ball occasionally, but in the 2025 season opener he comfortably got the most carries of any Miner. Could he now be the team's lead back?

Malachi Nelson - Unremarkable in first college start Nelson went 22-for-34 for 178 yards, one touchdown, and one interception Saturday against Utah State.

Impact This was it. Nelson was once one of the most-vaunted recruits in the country. He went to USC and didn't play. He transferred to Boise and he saw a smattering of mop-up work. Thus, he transferred to UTEP, and he finally won a QB battle. And...he posted a 36.8 QBR in a loss to Utah State. The last modicum of hype and promise has been extinguished.

Corey Thompson Jr. - Not on Week 1 depth chart Thompson (shoulder) is not listed on Utah State's Week 1 depth chart ahead of Saturday's game against UTEP, Scott Garrard of 1280 KSL Sports Zone reports.

Impact Thompson appears to be inactive for Utah State's opener after suffering an offseason shoulder injury. The 5-foot-10 junior transfer from UNLV posted four receptions for 60 yards across 13 games last fall. Thompson's status moving forward is unknown, but his next opportunity to suit up will come against Texas A&M in Week 2.
