Maddux Madsen - Solid in opener Madsen went 22-for-31 passing for 280 yards, a touchdown and an interception during Saturday's 56-45 victory against Georgia Southern.

Sire Gaines - Impressive collegiate debut Gaines logged 12 carries for 110 yards and a touchdown and gathered in all three targets for 44 yards and an additional score in Saturday's 56-45 win over Georgia Southern.

Impact While Ashton Jeanty's six-touchdown performance was the focal point of the season-opening win, the freshman Gaines certainly made an impression after taking over in the fourth quarter, highlighted by a 38-yard touchdown run that put the Broncos ahead 49-37. While it may be hard for Gaines to find touches in more competitive games, it's notable that he saw work ahead of Jambres Dubar, Jeanty's presumptive backup. The 6-foot, 208-pound Gaines joined Boise State as a three-star recruit out of California.

Ashton Jeanty - Explodes for six scores in opener Jeanty ran the ball 20 times for 267 yards and six touchdowns in Saturday's 56-45 win over Georgia Southern. He also caught three of four targets for four yards.

Impact Jeanty quickly reaffirmed his standing as one of the nation's top running backs, averaging 13.4 yards per carry in the opener while scoring a career-high six touchdowns, including a 77-yard scamper in the first quarter and a 75-yard run in the fourth. The junior looks to be picking up where he left off in 2023, when he ran for 1,347 yards and 14 touchdowns on 220 carries.

Dalen Cobb - Reels in touchdown Cobb tallied four receptions (on eight targets) for 55 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 56-45 defeat versus Boise State.

Impact Cobb linked up with JC French for an 18-yard score with 18 seconds left in the first half and tied with Derwin Burgess Jr. for the team high in receptions. After breaking out with 40 catches for 601 yards and two scores as a sophomore, Cobb's junior season is off to a solid start.

Derwin Burgess Jr. - Nears century mark Burgess had four receptions (on nine targets) for 93 yards during Saturday's 56-45 defeat to Boise State.

Impact Although Burgess tied with Dalen Cobb for the team lead in receptions, he paced Georgia Southern in targets and receiving yards. Half of Burgess' 93 yards came on one play when he connected with JC French on a 48-yard completion. After leading the country in pass attempts in 2023, the Eagles attempted 50 passes during Saturday's shootout, so there should be plenty of volume for Burgess as the team's top wideout.

Jalen White - Runs for three touchdowns White compiled 11 rushes for 35 yards and three touchdowns and gathered in all four targets for 14 yards during Saturday's 56-45 loss to Boise State.

Impact While Georgia Southern turned to the air attack to keep up with Boise State's non-stop scoring, White made the most of his 11 carries. All three of his scores came from within two yards. While White was inefficient Saturday, he was the clear lead back as no other running back handled more than three carries. White has averaged 5.6 yards per carry in each of the last three seasons.
