Tama Amisone - Switching positions
Amisone has made the switch to play receiver for San Jose State for the 2026 season, per Aaron Johnson of The Mercury News.
Impact
Amisone appeared in eight games for the Spartans at the quarterback position in 2025 but has made the switch and will play receiver moving forward. The 5-foot-11 freshman threw for 205 yards and three interceptions to go along with 160 yards and a touchdown in his time on the field with SJSU in 2025.

Luke Weaver - Earning first team reps in spring
Weaver ran the first time offense during San Jose State's spring practices, per Aaron Johnson of The Mercury News.
Impact
Weaver joined SJSU after transferring in from Hawaii in the off-season and appears to be working his way to the top of the QB room. The 6-foot-3 junior appeared in five games for the Rainbow Warriors in 2025, throwing for 628 yards and six touchdowns to three interceptions to go along with 73 rushing yards in that time. Weaver is currently in competition with Daniel Rolovich and Robert McDaniel for the starting gig and is the most experienced player of the group.

Jerry McClure - Standout in spring practice
Offensive Coordinator Craig Stutzmann named McClure as one of the biggest standouts of San Jose State's spring practices thus far, per Aaron Johnson of The Mercury News.
Impact
McClure transferred in from San Diego State in the off-season and has apparently been making waves since his arrival. The 6-foot-1 receiver played a minimal role with the Aztecs this past season, catching a single pass for eight scoreless yards, but appears to be set for a larger role with the Spartans in 2026.

ROTOWIRE
Malachi Riley - Expected to be full-go in fall camp
Riley (lower body) is expected to be full-go in San Jose State's fall camp, Aaron Johnson of The Santa Cruz Sentinel reports.
Impact
More than six months after Riley was ruled out for San Jose State's 2025 season, he is still not ready to go. On the plus side, SJSU's last preseason camp is expected to feature him, which does give the wide receiver enough time to be perfectly ready for the 2026 season. Riley will enter fall camp probable, with about a month before the Spartans get their campaign underway.

Luke Weaver - Transferring to SJSU
Weaver is transferring to San Jose State, he announced via X.

The 6-foot-3 quarterback appeared in five games during the 2025 campaign, where he completed 63 of 105 passes for 628 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions. His biggest competition for San Jose State's QB1 role will be returning freshman Tama Amisone.

Tyler Jacklich - Transfers to San Jose State
Jacklich is transferring to San Jose State.
Impact
Jacklich will join the Spartans after spending the 2025 campaign as West Virginia, where he carried the ball eight times for 36 yards across three games. He has two years of eligibility remaining and should continue to serve as depth running back at San Jose State.

Anthony Ivey - Signs with San Jose State
Ivey will transfer to San Jose State, per his personal X account.

ROTOWIRE
Walker Eget - Leaving San Jose
Eget (leg) will enter the transfer portal, per Pete Thamel of ESPN.com.
Impact
Eget is one of the bigger Group of Six quarterback prospects in the portal, as he's coming off a season in which he tossed for 3,058 yards, 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions on 59 percent completion. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound gunslinger will have one year of eligibility remaining, and he seems primed to land with a Power Four program.

Steve Chavez-Soto - Nine carries in finale
Chavez-Soto tallied nine rushes for 50 yards during Saturday's 41-14 defeat versus Fresno State.
Impact
Chavez-Soto led the Spartans in carries again Saturday, though his role was ultimately limited in a lopsided defeat. Chavez-Soto will wrap up a promising freshman campaign with 448 yards and seven touchdowns on 87 carries. He figures to lead the way in San Jose State's backfield again in 2026.

ROTOWIRE
Danny Scudero - Four grabs in finale
Scudero posted four receptions (on 15 targets) for 57 yards during Saturday's 41-14 defeat against Fresno State.
Impact
While Scudero was targeted often Saturday, he was limited to just four receptions, matching a season low, as the Spartans' passing game struggled mightily in the absence of quarterback Walker Eget (leg). While it was a disappointing year overall for San Jose State, Scudero's breakout was certainly a bright spot. Despite being held below 100 yards in each of his final four contests, Scudero will finish the year with an NCAA-leading 1,297 yards and 10 touchdowns on 88 receptions.

ROTOWIRE
Xavier Ward - Struggles in releif
Ward was 8-for-21 passing for 94 yards and three interceptions during Saturday's 41-14 defeat versus Fresno State.
Impact
After Tama Amisone struggled in place of Walker Eget (leg), Ward was brought in late in the first half to try and turn things around. Things certainly did not go any better for the senior quarterback, who completed just 38.1 percent of his passes while throwing three interceptions as the Spartans' season came to an end with a lopsided defeat.

ROTOWIRE
Tama Amisone - Benched in loss
Amisone was 2-for-9 passing for 12 yards and two interceptions during Saturday's 41-14 defeat to Fresno State.
Impact
It was a rough day for Amisone, who got the start with Walker Eget (leg) sidelined. The true freshman threw a pair of first-half interceptions before he was ultimately replaced by Xavier Ward. Amisone will wrap up the season with 205 passing yards and three interceptions while rushing for 160 yards and a touchdown on 34 attempts.

Walker Eget - Sidelined for finale
Eget (leg) will not be available for Saturday's season finale versus Fresno State, per the Mountain West availability report.
Impact
Eget suffered a leg injury during last Saturday's contest versus San Diego State, and it appears the issue is severe enough to keep him out of his potentially final collegiate contest. Eget closes out the 2025 campaign having completed 59.0 percent of his 393 pass attempts for 2,058 yards and a 17:9 TD:INT ratio, adding 33 carries for 96 yards on the ground.

Scudero caught 12-of-14 targets for 79 yards during Saturday's 25-3 defeat versus San Diego State.
Impact
Scudero continues to be a problem for opposing defenses, setting a new season-high for receptions with 12. Through 11 games played, the Sophomore wideout has posted a receiving line of 84-1234-10, placing him fourth overall in receptions, second overall in receiving yards and tied for sixth in touchdowns in all of College Football.

Kyri Shoels - Comes back down to earth in loss
Shoels caught two of six targets for 24 yards during Saturday's 25-3 loss versus San Diego State.
Impact
Shoels had been on a strong run over his past four games, averaging 88.25 yards per game during that stretch. Saturday was tougher sledding, as starting quarterback Walker Eget was injured and the San Diego State defense locked things down. For the season, Shoels has a receiving line of 57-751-2, working behind fellow wideout Danny Scudero.

Chavez-Soto accrued 14 carries for 51 yards and reeled in all two targets for negative two yards during Saturday's 25-3 loss versus San Diego State.
Impact

Tama Amisone - Enters after injury to starter
Amisone was 15-for-27 passing for 104 yards and one interception during Saturday's 25-3 defeat to San Diego State. He also had 13 rushes for 75 yards.
Impact
Amisone entered after starting quarterback Walker Eget was injured in the first quarter on Saturday. The Freshman quarterback tossed his first interception of the season in the loss. Amisone has shown the ability to use his legs effectively this season, running for 151 yards and one touchdown on 32 attempts. Keep an eye out for who the Spartans start next Saturday when they host Fresno State, as they close out the 2025 campaign.
