COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) Maryland guard Brene Moseley proved she might help fill the void left by Laurin Mincy and Lexie Brown.
Moseley had 24 points and a career-high 10 assists for No. 9 Maryland, which opened its season with a 102-53 rout of UMass-Lowell on Saturday.
''I think my teammates just did a good job of getting open,'' Moseley said. ''They had a lot of open reads, so it was easy to just get them the ball.''
Brown and Mincy combined to average about 27 points as senior guards last year, while Moseley averaged only 5.6 points in a reserve role.
Moseley didn't start Saturday either, but made her case for more time at point guard by finishing 8 of 13 from the field with only one turnover. She came within two of her career-high 26 points set as a freshman, before tearing her ACL and received a medical redshirt in the 2012-13 season
''Our scoring is going to come in a variety of ways,'' said Maryland coach Brenda Frese. ''But Brene knows that we have to have offense in that position. She's a got a beautiful shot from 3, and she's such a difficult matchup when you talk about her 3-ball, her pull-up and getting to the rim.''
Shatori Walker-Kimbrough scored 20 of her 22 points in the first half for the Terrapins, who are coming off the school's first back-to-back appearances in the Final Four.
Freshman Kiah Gillespie added 15 points as Maryland surpassed 100-point mark for a second consecutive season opener.
Nicole Hayner had 15 points to lead Lowell. Kayla Gibbs scored 12 points and Lindsey Doucette added 10.
''We wanted to get to 50 points and we did, and that's why the team was really excited and happy to get there,'' said coach Jenerrie Harris. ''We had some good moments where we executed nicely, but then Maryland is quick and they can recover.''
Walker-Kimbrough scored 15 of Maryland's first 24 points, including seven straight on a 3-pointer, a baseline jumper and a putback that fueled a 22-0 run for a 30-5 lead.
The lead grew to 40 points when Moseley's 3 from the left wing pushed it to 56-16 late in the second quarter.
In the third, Walker-Kimbrough's steal and no-look feed set up Moseley's layup to make it 76-26.
''You see signs of great teams that are really mature that don't play to the scoreboard,'' Frese said. ''I thought at times our group really locked in in the first half. I think we got a little distracted in the second half.''
THE 100 MARK
Maryland: 102 points was its most since scoring 110 against Coppin State last season. The Terps scored 109 to open last season against Mount St. Mary's.
UMass Lowell: The visitors came within five points of their most allowed in school history, when they let in 107 against Quinnipiac in 1983.

Maryland's upperclassmen received commemorative rings and a banner was raised to the rafters to commemorate last season's Final Four appearance. . No Maryland player played more than Moseley's 26 minutes. . Lowell is not scheduled to play another current Top 25 team this season. . The Terps outrebounded the River Hawks 53-34 and had only 15 turnovers, 10 fewer than their opponents.
