Urijah Faber gets hometown showdown with Brad Pickett in Sacramento

Published Nov. 15, 2016 2:11 p.m. ET

It's hard to imagine the UFC going to Sacramento without hometown favorite Urijah Faber on the card.

Faber has been matched up with British slugger Brad Pickett in a new bantamweight bout announced for the FOX UFC Fight Night card headed to Sacramento on Dec. 17.

UFC officials announced the matchup on Tuesday.

The hometown fight for Faber will be a chance for him to correct course after suffering a couple tough losses in recent bouts.

Faber fell to bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz in June before dropping a unanimous decision to Jimmie Rivera in September.

Now "The California Kid" will look to get back in the win column as he fights in Sacramento for the first time since a 2013 victory over Michael McDonald.

Pickett has also faced tough times during this most recent stretch of his career while going just 1-4 over his past five outings.

The heavy-handed Brit picked up a thrilling victory over Francisco Rivera in February before falling to Iuri Alcantara at UFC 204 in early October.

Faber vs. Pickett is the latest matchup added to the UFC card in Sacramento headlined by Paige VanZant in a five-round battle with Michelle Waterson.
