Ricardo Lamas interested in facing Dennis Bermudez at UFC 180
Former UFC featherweight contender Ricardo Lamas is still recovering from a broken thumb suffered in his last win over Hacran Dias, but the recovery time should still allow him to fight in November in a show he's begging to land on.
Lamas tells UFC Tonight's Ariel Helwani that he broke his thumb in the first round of his fight in June, but he expects to be cleared by September, which would make him available for the upcoming UFC 180 card on November 15.
Lamas would like nothing more than to fight on that card because it takes place in Mexico City, Mexico and serves as the first ever UFC event in the area. The show will be headlined by a heavyweight title fight between champion Cain Velasquez and top contender Fabricio Werdum.
As far as opponents go, nothing is determined yet because technically Lamas isn't even cleared so he can't book a fight, but he's eyeing a showdown with Dennis Bermudez, who is currently riding a seven-fight win streak in the Octagon.
Lamas has previously called for a fight with Bermudez and while there have been rumors flying around about possibly pitting the two featherweights against each other, the UFC has yet to make any kind of formal offer.
For now, Lamas will continue to heal up and hopefully get his clearance in a few weeks before he makes a concerted push to land on the UFC 180 card in Mexico .
