Jose Aldo, Max Holloway on weight ahead of showdown at UFC 212
A new undisputed featherweight champion will be crowned on Saturday night in Brazil as Jose Aldo meets Max Holloway in one of the most highly anticipated fights this year.
A day ahead of the event, the fighters weighed in on Friday morning with both Aldo and Holloway stepping on the scale to make their fight official.
Aldo needed a towel as he removed his clothes to hit the mark at exactly 145 pounds for his 10th consecutive title fight in the UFC. The Brazilian will look for his second victory in a row after defeating Frankie Edgar last July to win the featherweight title after falling to Conor McGregor in 2015.
As for Holloway, he also came in at exactly 145 pounds for his first title fight in the UFC. The 25-year-old Hawaiian comes into the event on an incredible 10-fight win streak, including his TKO victory over Anthony Pettis to become interim featherweight champion this past December.
In the co-main event, former title challenger Claudia Gadelha weighed in at 116 pounds as she looks to put on a show in front of her home country fans in Brazil. Gadelha has admittedly suffered through brutal weight cuts in the past, but a recent change in training and nutrition allowed her to step onto the scale while still wearing a pair of sweatpants and a smile on her face as she hit the strawweight limit.
Her opponent, Karolina Kowalkiewicz also came in on weight at 115 pounds as she returns to action for the first time since suffering a loss to strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk this past November at UFC 205.
All of the other fighters made weight on Friday, including Iuri Alcantara, who was the last competitor to step on the scale just ahead of the 10 a.m. deadline.
