Former UFC champ Carla Esparza meets Maryna Moroz in Oklahoma City

Former UFC champion Carla Esparza will make her return to action on June 25 when she faces Maryna Moroz as part of the upcoming card in Oklahoma City.

Sources close to the matchup confirmed the news to FOX Sports on Friday following an initial report from ESPN.

Esparza (11-4) will look to bounce back from a very close, controversial decision to Randa Markos in February when she returns to the cage this summer.

The former women's strawweight champion has suffered through injuries and a lot of time off since her loss to current title holder Joanna Jedrzejczyk, but now Esparza will try to climb back to the top of the rankings when she returns in June.

Moroz (8-1) enters the fight after back-to-back victories in her most recent performances including wins over Danielle Taylor and Cristina Stanciu.

Moroz made an immediate impact when she debuted in the UFC with a submission victory over Joanne Calderwood before suffering her only career loss to former title contender Valerie Letourneau.

Esparza and Moroz join a growing card at UFC Fight Night in Oklahoma City including a showdown between Hall of Famer B.J. Penn taking on Dennis Siver as well as former welterweight champ Johny Hendricks taking on Tim Boetsch.

A main event is still to be determined for the card that will air live on FS1 on June 25.
