Demian Maia might have locked up a shot at the welterweight title Saturday night after doing what no man had done before: Submit Carlos Condit.
It didn’t take long for Maia, a world-class Brazilian jiu-jitsu player, to take the fight to the ground and subsequently take Condit’s back. From there, the former middleweight contender was able to work one of his arms under the chin of “The Natural Born Killer” and that was all she wrote.
With the win, Maia runs his streak of victories in the welterweight division to six, one less than current No. 1 contender Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson.
Hear what Maia’s fellow fighters had to say about what may be his most impressive victory to date.
