US to play Germany in Fed Cup playoffs

The U.S. team will travel to Germany for the Fed Cup playoffs.

The Americans, who lost to Belgium in the first round last weekend without the injured Williams sisters, need to beat the Germans to stay in the eight-team World Group.

The best-of-five series will be played April 16-17. The venue hasn't been selected yet.

In other World Group playoffs, Spain will host France, Slovakia will host Serbia and Australia will host Ukraine.

In World Group II, it's: Belarus vs. Estonia; Japan vs. Argentina; Slovenia vs. Canada; and Switzerland vs. Sweden.
