Toronto FC and Philadelphia Union Draw in Top of the Table Clash

Two of the top clubs in the Eastern Conference in Toronto FC and the Philadelphia Union met on Saturday evening for a key match in the race for the playoffs. 

It was a hard-fought battle between Toronto FC and the Philadelphia Union, with both clubs earning a point in a 1-1 draw. The result allows the Reds to stay level with New York City F.C. on points and the Union stay safe in fourth place.

The first opportunity of the match fell for Fabian Herbers in the 7th minute as he unleashed a powerful shot that was dealt with by Clint Irwin. Offensively, the Union kept putting the pressure on and in the 25th minute they found the back of the net. Alejandro Bedoya produced a fantastic goal that is worthy of any highlight reel. it was also his first goal for the club.

Just before halftime Irwin would have to come up big. Herbers was denied again by the American goalkeeper, this time from point-blank range. As a result the home side were able to head into the locker room only down one.

Toronto would equalizer in the 70th minute when Justin Morrow slotted home his fourth of the season. Jonathan Osorio provided the assist with a wonderful individual effort to create the opportunity.

Jozy Altidore came close to scoring the winning goal in the 86th minute, however, he hit the post and was denied. In the end, the match finished all square.

All Goals

The Reds will host two matches this week, with Orlando City SC and DC United set to visit BMO Field on Wednesday and Saturday. It will be another tough battle for the Union next weekend as they go on the road to face the New York Red Bulls.
