Sunderland was left facing a bleak Christmas after its must-win clash with Norwich in the Premier League ended 0-0 Saturday.

The Black Cats, who ejected Chelsea from the League Cup midweek to book a place in the semifinals, are stuck at the bottom of the league table, three points behind Fulham and Crystal Palace.

Sunderland has now won just four of its last 32 league games, with just 10 points from the opening 17 fixtures of the season. Norwich has 19 from 17.

Sunderland defender Wes Brown, sent off in stoppage time for a foul on substitute Ricky van Wolfswinkel, came closest to a winner at the Stadium of Light when he hit the outside of the post with a 57th-minute header.
