Superb goals by Stephane Sessegnon and Craig Gardner gave Sunderland a 2-0 victory over Swansea in the Premier League on Saturday to maintain the team's revival under new manager Martin O'Neill.

Sessegnon put the hosts ahead in the 14th minute when the Benin midfielder ran onto a pass from James McClean to curl a shot into the corner.

Gardner came off the bench to make the game safe in the 85th minute with a dipping volley from 25 yards, sealing Sunderland's fifth win in eight league games since O'Neill replaced Steve Bruce in mid-December.

The three points lifted Sunderland above Swansea and into 10th place in the standings.
