Substitute Pierre-Michel Lasogga scored a late equalizer for Hertha Berlin in a 1-1 draw at Hannover in the Bundesliga on Sunday, while Schalke rallied from two goals down to win 4-2 at Mainz.
Lasogga scored in the 83rd minute, when Christian Lell whipped in a cross for the 19-year-old to glance past Ron-Robert Zieler with his left boot.
Hannover - which opened the scoring through Sergio Pinto's 33rd-minute free kick - was unlucky to have a goal disallowed in the 89th, when Christian Pander's free kick went untouched before ending in the net. TV replays failed to show an infringement.
''It's a pity for (Pander). It's a pity for us. We would have been leaders,'' said Hannover coach Mirko Slomka.
Hannover is second on goal difference to Borussia Moenchengladbach, with Bayern Munich third after three games.
Earlier, Schalke's Christian Fuchs - who played for Mainz last season and was jeered throughout the game by the home fans - scored with a free kick in the 90th minute after Joel Matip had given the visitors the lead in the 81st.
Raul Gonzalez set up Klaas Jan Huntelaar to begin the comeback in the 57th, before Benedikt Hoewedes equalized in the 64th.
It was Mainz's first defeat of the season, and the first time Schalke managed to overturn a two-goal deficit in ten years.
''If you can score four goals in Mainz after being 2-0 down at halftime, then you can also score four goals against Helsinki,'' said Schalke coach Ralf Rangnick, hopeful of overturning his side's 2-0 loss in the first leg of their Europa League playoff. ''If we score four goals against HJK, we can even concede one.''
Mainz surged into an early lead through Andreas Ivanschitz in the seventh and Elkin Soto in the 12th, when the Colombian capitalized on a mistake from Ralf Faehrmann.
Sami Allagui's speculative shot from distance caught the 22-year-old goalkeeper by surprise and Soto reacted to convert the rebound.
Ivanschitz might have had another as Mainz overran the visitors, his effort blocked at the last instant in the 15th, and the home side missed a host of chances to extend its lead in the first half.
Schalke improved after the break with the introduction of Julian Draxler and Jefferson Farfan, and deservedly scored when Raul beat the offside trap to leave Huntelaar with an easy tap in.
Heinz Mueller pulled off an outstanding save to prevent an own goal from Marco Caligiuri, but Hoewedes was left unmarked to score with a header from the resultant corner.
Mainz had a goal disallowed when substitute Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting was offside for the rebound after Eugen Polanski hit the post.
Matip took advantage of sloppy defending to score when Mainz failed to clear Farfan's corner, before Fuchs scored but refused to celebrate.
In Hannover, Pinto scored when he took advantage of a poorly positioned wall to fire low inside the left post.
''I have to show the players how to defend those properly during the week,'' said Hertha coach Markus Babbel.
Babbel's side found it hard to create openings against the well-organized Hannover defense.
Adrian Ramos dragged his shot wide in the 62nd, and Zieler then showed why was called up for the national team in midweek, making a fine reflex save to deny the Colombian striker.
The game came to life when Lasogga scored his first Bundesliga goal with seven minutes remaining. The 19-year-old was then booked for his over-enthusiastic celebrations with the fans.
Ramos should have scored shortly afterward, before Pander's free kick was ruled out for an apparent foul by Didier Ya Konan on a defender.
''When you look at the pictures, we can be happy that this goal wasn't allowed,'' Babbel said.
