The 27-year-old has performed admirably at left-back this season but recent injuries to Pardew's squad have seen him utilised in different roles.

An early knock to Yohan Cabaye during Sunday's 1-0 win at home to QPR saw Taylor pushed into an unfamiliar central midfield position.

The Toon man says he has no problem filling in wherever he is needed and feels his experience and versatility has helped him get the nod this season.

He told the Daily Express: "It was maybe just a one-off because we lost Yohan early on. There were a couple of replacements on the bench but they didn't have much experience so I think the manager was prepared to use my experience and versatility.

"It wasn't about me trying to score goals or bomb forward, it was just about keeping our shape and keeping things tight.

"It's not like I've never played in centre midfield before. I played there throughout my youth but you become less familiar with the role. However, if the gaffer wants me to play in any position, I will.

"I enjoyed playing on the right of midfield against Manchester United the other night and providing you're playing, you're always happy. I've just got one of those 'versatility' tags to my name."

Newcastle are currently without key duo Demba Ba and Cheick Tiote, who are both on African Cup of Nations duty.

Questions have surfaced over whether the Magpies will be able to push on in the Premier League without two of their most effective players, but Taylor is not worried after Sunday's win, which saw Leon Best score his first goal in four months.

"They're two massive players for this club, so it was always going to be difficult when they went away," he added.

"Demba's goal record just goes to show that but we've got lads who can fill in and Besty's one of those who hasn't been playing regularly this season.

"Once he scored he looked a lot more confident and what a cool finish that was. If he can go on a run of goals now people will be talking about the competition we've got for places when Demba comes back from the African Nations Cup.

"Besty scores goals on a regular basis in training but things haven't been going his way on the field recently. Hopefully now he can give us another option."
