Roma's game at Catania suspended due to rain

Roma's Serie A game at Catania was suspended halfway through the second period on Saturday due to heavy rain in the Sicilian city.

Referee Paolo Tagliavento decided to bring a halt to the match 21 minutes after the interval with the score at 1-1. After waiting five minutes to see if the rain would ease up, the game was officially postponed.

Heavy rain had been falling throughout the game and parts of the Stadio Angelo Massimino pitch were completely sodden.

Similar weather is predicted for Sunday. The rest of the match will be played either on Feb. 8 or 15., depnding on whether Roma beats Juventus to qualify for the Italian Cup semifinals.

Nicola Legrottaglie gave Catania the lead in 24th minute before Daniele De Rossi leveled four minutes later.

Roma is seventh in the Serie A standings, five points above eighth-placed Catania.
