Roberto Mancini was at a loss to explain Manchester City's defeat after they went down 3-1 at Tottenham Hotspur.
Samir Nasri fired City into an early lead and Mancini felt his side continued to be superior for much of the game.
However, they could not add to their lead and were stunned by three quick-fire Spurs goals late in the second half as Clint Dempsey, Jermain Defoe and Gareth Bale struck.
Mancini told Sky Sports: "It is incredible that we lost this game because we had everything under control for 80 minutes.
"We had a lot of chances to score a second goal, but this is football.
"If you don't close the game it can happen like today."
City's loss means their defence of the Premier League title could come to an end on Monday, when Manchester United will be confirmed as champions if they beat Aston Villa.
Mancini was willing to acknowledge United's success, but insisted he had been resigned to City's fate for some time.
Asked if United deserved to win to win the title, Mancini said: "The championship was finished three or four weeks ago. They deserve to win this championship.
"They are not a better team but they deserve to win this title because we lost a lot of points in games we probably didn't deserve to lose.
"But United won a lot of games in a row with goals and deserve to win the title."
Derek McInnes takes charge of Aberdeen for the first time on Monday night when they open their post-split campaign against Hibernian at Easter Road.
A 1-0 defeat by Dundee United in Craig Brown's final match in charge consigned Aberdeen to a fourth consecutive season in the bottom six and Reynolds admits they need to show their supporters there is scope for improvement.
Reynolds said: "It's five big games. I know the season is over in terms of doing something in the league but I think everyone is looking forward towards next season now.
"The fans and players want to build something and it's important we show a style of football and that the team he (McInnes) is going to put together can do something next season - and excite the fans and bring them in.
"There are five massive games. We are looking to win the five of them and have spoken about that. There is no reason why we can't. On our day we are as good as anyone in the league.
"It's important we show the supporters that we will have a decent team next year and that it's going to be something that can challenge at the right end of the league."
Aberdeen face a Hibs side on a high following their Scottish Cup semi-final comeback against Falkirk but Reynolds has noticed a fresh spark about the Dons squad since McInnes started taking training.
"When a new manager comes in there is a wee bit extra energy and brightness with new ideas," added Reynolds.
"Everyone is out to impress - players who have been playing want to show why they have been getting the nod and the other players are trying to show why they should be there.
"There are also boys who are playing for a contract. There are a lot of factors but everyone has upped their game because the new manager is in and everyone is looking to impress.
"It's always like that when any new manager comes in at any club."
