UEFA has rejected Rapid Vienna's appeal against an order to play a Europa League match in an empty stadium next week.

UEFA says its appeals panel upheld an earlier disciplinary ruling to punish Rapid for its fans' violent behavior at a playoff-round match against PAOK in Greece last month.

Rapid will play its opening group match at home against Rosenborg behind closed doors next Thursday.

UEFA will also enforce a one-season ban from European competition if crowd violence is repeated by Rapid fans in the Europa League or Champions League within three years.

UEFA also rejected the Austrian club's appeal against a $96,000 fine.
