Davis' Railwaymen fell to a 2-1 opening-day defeat at home to Notts County, but Mathias Pogba helped himself to another goal following his brace during the 5-0 Capital One Cup thrashing of Hartlepool - a game in which fellow forwards Ajay Leitch-Smith and Max Clayton were also on the scoresheet.

Nevertheless, Davis is seeking further reinforcements and is hopeful of bringing in an unnamed target on a six-month deal before Tuesday night's trip to Scunthorpe.

"We have agreed with a Premier League club to take one of their strikers," he told Alex's official website. "We want to try and get him in before the match at Scunthorpe.

"He wants to come here because of the football we play and (we) have held talks with his agent. He has had other offers but he wants to come here.

"It would be a six-month loan and he is a talented boy, who is quick and scores goals. Hopefully we can sort something out very shortly."
