Palacios picked in Honduras' Gold Cup squad

Tottenham midfielder Wilson Palacios has been called up by Honduras for June's Gold Cup in the United States despite struggling for fitness.

Palacios is still recovering from undergoing knee surgery this year, but Honduras coach Luis Fernando Suarez said the midfielder would be ''fine'' for the CONCACAF tournament.

Fellow British-based players Ramon Nunez of Leeds, Emilio Izaguirre of Celtic and Wigan's Maynor Figueroa were all included, but there was no place for D.C. United forward Andy Najar.

Najar was expected to make the squad after confirming he would represent Honduras rather than the U.S.

Honduras will play a warm-up match on May 29 against El Salvador in Houston and faces Granada, Guatemala and Jamaica in Group B of the Gold Cup.

The tournament runs from June 5-25. Mexico is the defending champion.
