Yakubu, who left for Blackburn Rovers in the summer, is banned for Saturday's Premier League clash with his old club following his sending off against Fulham.
The 29-year-old has scored 13 goals since making the move and while Anichebe is disappointed his fellow Nigerian will not be able to play, he admits that from Everton's perspective it should be viewed as a bonus.
"It's a blow for Blackburn but it's great for us," Anichebe, who has recently returned from injury, told Everton's official website.
"Yak's been in great form this season. He was saying how he was looking forward to coming back and playing against us.
"I've been talking to him when I was just coming back and saying how I wanted to try to emulate him and how he's getting so many goals.
"He's a great friend to me, so it's sad that he's missing the game but it's great for us."
