McDermott happy with his squad
The Royals were promoted back to the Premier League last season and McDermott has been busy strengthening the squad in the hope of ensuring survival.
The likes of Pavel Pogrebnyak and Garath McCleary have been brought in and the 51-year-old manager believes his players are prepared for the challenge ahead.
"Summer has been good. We've signed seven players," McDermott told Sky Sports News. "We've got the group that we had together last season and we're looking forward to Saturday."
Asked if he was looking to bring in more players this summer, McDermott said: "Not overly. We've got two players for every position which is what I always wanted.
"If something comes off late in the window then maybe but there's nothing in the pipeline.
"We've got experienced players; players who have played in the league. And we've got players who are at a good age - they all are.
"They're all hungry, that's the most important thing. We've got a group that wants to do well and get better.
"We've had a core group together now for quite a long time so I think that augurs well for us."
