Christine Latham scored the game's only goal in the 38th minute of the game to lift the Boston Breakers to a 1-0 victory over the Washington Freedom. The game winner was set up by an assist from Boston Breaker standout Heather Mitts.
"We played very poorly in the first half and gave Boston too many chances," said Washington Freedom head coach Jim Gabarra. "In the last 20 or 30 minutes I thought we played well, had some chances and came very close to tying the game up."
