Kompany has taken the armband since Carlos Tevez revealed his desire to leave City at the end of last season. However, Tevez remains on City's books with just a few days of the transfer window remaining. Kompany is unfazed by the, surely remote, possibility of surrendering the armband back to Tevez, but says it would not affect him anyway. "I have to be careful talking about the captaincy because there's nothing official, but the most important thing is it wouldn't change my role in the team," he told The People. "I'm always someone who's going to be taking a leading role anyway. I will always take responsibility because I'm better when I have that. "I have the respect of people at the club and if I don't get the captaincy (long-term) it won't change anything. "We have so much respect for each other I'll be happy if he has it and he'll be happy if I have it. "The only thing it changes is one of us gets to lead the team out and sign the teamsheet. "We have a very strong group and police ourselves and that won't change." Kompany, 25, believes City must do their talking on the field as they look to build on last season's FA Cup triumph with the pressure to succeed mounting following another summer of heavy spending. He said: "There is not much point in talking about what we're going to do, we have to do it. We have done things already but have massive ambitions. We still have to stay humble. "We've been battered a lot over the last three years and I think that has helped me to love this club even more because we have been in the corner most of the time. "And the fact as well that I have this relationship with the fans is very important to me. "I like Mancunians, I am good here. I feel comfortable, it feels like home and I am ready to stay here for a long time."
