Koeman takes over at Utrecht

BY foxsports • May 31, 2011

The 49-year-old, a former coach of Feyenoord and the Hungary national team, has joined the club on a one-year deal. Koeman succeeds former boss Ton du Chatinier, who Utrecht dismissed two weeks ago following a string of disappointing results. Speaking on Utrecht's official website, the new coach said: "FC Utrecht has a realistic goal, clear vision focused on football and a fanatic crowd. "I have the feeling this club suits me." Dutchman Koeman last coached the Hungary team for a two-year stint before departing in July 2010. He and Utrecht have reached an agreement that if star players Michel Vorm, Dries Mertens and Kevin Strootman are sold this summer the coach will be free to invest the full amount from their transfers on reinforcements. Utrecht, who finished ninth in the league last season, are targeting a spot between 3rd and 8th next year under Koeman.
