Hoeness hopes to keep Ribery on board
Bayern Munich chairman Uli Hoeness says the club need to show they
can compete in the Champions League if they want to keep Franck
Ribery.
Ribery is being strongly linked with a move away from the
Allianz Arena this summer and Hoeness accepts Bayern need to
perform on the pitch in order to keep their prized asset.
The Bavarian outfit hold a 2-1 lead over Fiorentina following
the first leg of the Champions League first knockout phase tie.
"Fiorentina was strong in the first leg fixture, but I was
not amazed by their play," said Hoeness.
"Why should we get afraid? We won that match. If we are
advancing to the next round, doing a good job, seeing Franck
(Ribery) playing well and he is grabbing that feeling, we have a
chance at such a stage of the competition, then we have a better
chance to see him remain.
"Should we lose out by three goals to nil, I would not bet on
him staying on."
Ribery currently has 16 months left on his current deal at
Bayern and has been linked with the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona
and Chelsea.
