France, Italy and Turkey have formally submitted bid dossiers to host the 2016 European Championship.

The bids were presented to UEFA Executive Committee member Gilberto Madail on Monday.

UEFA president Michel Platini, a former France international, was absent to avoid a conflict of interest regarding the French delegation.

UEFA technical experts will visit the bidding countries in March and April. They will prepare an evaluation report for UEFA's National Team Competitions Committee, which is chaired by Madail, and the Executive Committee will vote to determine the host on May 28.

Euro 2016 will for the first time feature 24 nations, up from 16 at Euro 2012 in Poland-Ukraine. There will be 51 matches, up from 31 at the next tournament.
