Rodolfo Gamarra scored twice as Paraguayan side Libertad downed a
nine-man Blooming of Bolivia 4-0 in Group 4 of the Copa
Libertadores on Tuesday.
Victor Caceres was left unmarked at the back post before
firing in the opener in first half stoppage time for Libertad.
Blooming then lost Fabricio and Andres Imperiale to red cards in
the 48th and 51st.
Gamarra made it 2-0 when he headed in the second goal from
Wilson Pitoni's lofted pass in the 67th minute. Victor Ayala's free
kick and Gamarra's second goal added gloss to the scoreline in
stoppage time.
In the day's other match, Esteban Paredes scored the lone
goal in Colo Colo of Chile's 1-0 home win over Deportivo Italia of
Venezuela in Group 7.
Paredes burst into the box and shot into the roof of the net
after intercepting an attempted clearance by Marcelo Maidana in the
59th minute.
The results put Libertad top of Group 4 with two wins from
two matches. Universitario of Peru can draw level if it beats Lanus
of Argentina at home tomorrow.
Colo Colo joined Velez Sarsfield at the top of Group 7, with
both clubs winning their opening matches.
The Copa Libertadores is the top club competition in Latin
America. The winners and six best-placed runners-up from the eight
groups will qualify for the last 16 stage.
