Cedric Soares has agreed to move to Southampton from Sporting Lisbon
Sporting Lisbon defender Cedric Soares has agreed to move to Southampton, according to Sky sources.
The 23-year-old Portugal international is set to sign a four-year contract at St Mary's after the two clubs agreed a fee believed to be in the region of £3.5million.
Soares came through Sporting's youth academy, making his debut as a 19-year-old in 2010, and he has gone on to make 67 appearances while winning the Portuguese Cup this season.
He has represented Portugal at every level from U16 upwards, gaining 72 youth caps in total, and has picked up three senior caps since his international debut last year.
This could serve as a replacement for Nathaniel Clyne, who is rumored to be on the way to Liverpool.
The signing of Soares would mark Southampton's second inside a week after bringing in the Spain striker Juanmi on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old Juanmi, who has cost the Saints a fee in the region of £5m, was Ronald Koeman's first signing of the summer after joining from Malaga.
