Cats put Mensah talks back on the radar

The 27-year-old Ghana international's representatives were due to meet club officials this week for discussions but were prevented from doing so by the disruption to air travel caused by the volcanic ash cloud. Manager Steve Bruce said: "It was supposed to be this week, but with the volcano, it's been put back a week." Mensah, who is currently on loan to the Black Cats from Ligue 1 side Lyon, has been a big hit on Wearside this season, but has been severely hampered by a succession of injuries linked to a back problem. That means Sunderland are unlikely to seek a permanent move for a player who has three years remaining on his current contract, but they would be more than interested in another loan deal. Bruce is still waiting for an answer from 33-year-old midfielder Bolo Zenden over the offer of another year at the Stadium of Light. He said: "I think the situation will be up to Bolo. He knows I want to keep him, I will be respectful to him and see what he wants to do." Meanwhile, the Sunderland boss has admitted his interest in Belgium Under-21 goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, but insisted any deal is far from done. He said: "We are aware of the young goalkeeper, but that's as far as it has gone at the moment."
