Cardozo seals Benfica tie with Braga

Benfica was held to a 2-2 draw at home by Braga on Saturday in the first round of the Portuguese league.

Eduardo Salvio put Benfica ahead in the 49th minute before Braga equalized through Lorenzo Melgarejo's own-goal five minutes later.

Marcio Mossoro gave Braga the lead in the 63rd.

But Braga defender Douglas Ferreira was shown his second yellow card for handling in the area, and Oscar Cardozo converted the penalty in the 73rd to seal the draw.

Benfica, last season's runner-up, hasn't won its opening league match since the 2006-07 season.

Also, Maritimo beat Rio Ave 1-0, while Olhanense beat Estoril 2-1 on Friday.

Defending champion Porto visits Gil Vicente on Sunday.
