Ben Arfa scored a sensational individual goal in Saturday's 2-1 victory over Blackburn in the third round, and Toon will be hot favourites in the fourth round at either Brighton or Wrexham.

"Newcastle want to win this cup, because it's a very big cup," Ben Arfa told the Gazette. "It's been a long time since this club won a trophy, and we want to win something.

"And with this cup, you can go to Europe. If we win, it would be very good for the club, but there is a long way to go in the cup."

Ben Arfa's stunning individual effort against Rovers - in which he beat half the Blackburn team before scoring - created waves not just in England but in France too.

"I celebrated with my family who came from Paris to watch the game," he added. "I was happy for all the fans and the people who like football.

"Football should be a spectacle for the fans, and I think the game was very good."
