MUNICH --

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge would like to see a seeding system for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Speaking after Bayern's 4-2 win in extra time over Juventus, Rummenigge said he had seen Round of 16 matches that nearly made him switch off the television, ''while now we have a team like Juventus, which was in the final last season, eliminated.''

Rummenigge, also chairman of the European Club Association, says ''we are speaking about image, money, merits. It should be done as in tennis or other sports.''

Wolfsburg director Klaus Allofs, whose team is also in the quarterfinals, rejected the idea, saying, ''we don't want a closed society.''

A seeding system is already used for determining the group stage.
