Bayern Munich's board has condemned a group of fans for ''insulting and defaming'' club president Uli Hoeness.

A club statement says such behavior is ''shameful, unbearable and unacceptable'' and contrary to the style of Bayern.

In what the club said was an embarrassing display, a group of fans unfurled banners critical of Hoeness, some of them calling him a ''liar.''

Hoeness was visibly upset by the slogans. He became the target of radical fans after giving financial help to embattled local second-division rival 1860 Munich as it faced bankruptcy.
