America rescues late point versus Toluca

America was held to a 1-1 draw against Toluca on Sunday, leaving San Luis as the only club with a perfect record after only two weeks of the Mexican Clausura season.

San Luis defeated Estudiantes Tecos 2-0 to take the league lead. Guadalajara Chivas, one of the favorites for the title, lost its second straight matching going down 3-1 to Jaguares.

In other weekend results, Pachuca defeated Puebla 3-1, Tijuana beat Monterrey 1-0, Pumas UNAM won 3-0 against Morelia, Cruz Azul defeated Atlas 2-0, Santos won 2-1 against Atlante, and Tigres UANL overcame Queretaro 1-0.

Toluca went ahead against the run of play in the 56th minute when Ivan Alonso beat America defender Juan Carlos Valenzuela and steered a low cross into the far corner of the net.

America was awarded a contentious penalty for handball in the 85th, which Matias Vuoso converted.

San Luis' Argentine striker Alfredo Moreno scored in the 19th minute, and Moises Velasco added the second in the 78th. The result left Estudiantes Tecos in last place in the relegation table.

Jaguares went ahead against Chivas on Yassar Corona's left-footed volley from 10 meters in the 24th. Hector Reynoso scored for Chivas in the 52nd, but goals from Jorge Rodriguez (62nd) and Jackson Martinez (72nd) earned Jaguares the victory.

Jaguares' Miguel Martinez was sent off on a second yellow card in the 79th. Chivas' Jorge Enriquez got a straight red in the 83rd, as did teammate Hector Reynoso, who threw an elbow into Martinez's face two minutes from the end. There were 12 yellow cards and 3 red cards in the game.

Two goals in the last 15 minutes from Mexico's Under-17 World Cup winning striker Marco Bueno gave Pachuca victory over Puebla. Jaimen Ayovi gave Pachuca the lead in the 30th, before Luis Angel Landin equalized two minutes before halftime.

Tijuana captain Javier Gandolfi headed in from a free kick in second-half injury time against Monterrey to give his team three points as it battles relegation.

Juan Carlos Cacho scored in the 7th minute for Pumas against Morelia. Defensive confusion handed Martin Bravo an easy header to increase Pumas' lead in the 39th, and the third came five minutes from the end on a strike from Eduardo Herrera.

A misplaced throw from Atlas' Chilean goalkeeper Miguel Pinto gifted Cruz Azul the lead just before halftime, with Argentine Emanuel Villa finishing. Christian Gimenez scored the second on a penalty.

Christian Suarez opened the scoring for Santos in the 12th, in a match affected by heavy rain. Andres Mendoza slotted the equalizer for Atlante in the 52nd, but four minutes later Santos' Oribe Peralta scored the winner.

Defending champions Tigres picked up their first win of the Clausura season with Juninho getting the only goal in the 39th.
