Marco Verratti's agent has revealed that Real Madrid attempted to sign the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder this summer but their bid was turned down by the Ligue 1 champions.

The Italy international has developed into an important first-team member since joining PSG from Pescara in the summer of 2012 and he has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Nevertheless, PSG have no intention of letting go of the 21-year-old and gave Madrid's offer short shrift, according to Donato Di Campli.

"Did Real Madrid try to sign Verratti? You could say that, yes," the player's agent was quoted as saying bySky.

"Madrid made an offer for Marco, but PSG had their demands and the clubs didn't reach an agreement, so we didn't do anything more.

"This is why Marco stayed put and still plays with PSG."

Verratti has a contract with the Parisians until the summer of 2018. The midfielder has made 86 appearances for PSG in all competitions so far.
