MILWAUKEE — Former DePaul head men's basketball coach Jerry Wainwright has joined Marquette's program as director of operations, the Golden Eagles announced Monday.

Wainwright served as a Division I head coach for 16 seasons earlier in his career, at DePaul, Richmond and UNC-Wilmington, and coached in the NCAA tournament on three separate occasions. From 2005-10, Wainwright compiled a coaching mark of 59-80 at Big East league member DePaul.

"We are very grateful to add Coach Wainwright as the final member of our staff," Marquette head coach Buzz Williams said in a statement. "I have known Coach since early in my career and have always been humbled by his willingness to share wisdom with me as I have advanced."

"I never knew . . . that an opportunity like this would ever materialize," Williams added, "but I am very grateful that it has. (Wainwright's) wealth of knowledge and experiences will help everyone in our program."

Wainwright spent the 2011-12 season as an associate head coach at Fresno State. Earlier in his coaching career, from 1986-94, Wainwright served as an assistant at Wake Forest. The native of Berwyn, Ill., has a career head coaching record of 245-225 in the college ranks.

Marquette also announced Monday that Devin Johnson will aid the Golden Eagles' staff next season as video coordinator. Johnson is a 2008 graduate of the University of New Orleans and formerly served as a student assistant under Williams at UNO.
