Tuesday, Jan. 10

Florida State (9-6, 0-1) at Virginia Tech (11-4, 0-1)
When: 7 p.m.
Where: Blacksburg, VA, Cassell Coliseum (9,847)
Fast break: Both teams suffered losses neither could afford over the weekend, and now the loser of this contest will be in a rough situation starting out 0-2 in ACC play. FSU’s scoring issues are such an albatross it’s difficult to imagine the Seminoles doing enough to win in a rowdy environment. The Hokies are better with the ball and will be inspired to notch a must-win game.
Forecast: VT, 65-55.

Miami (9-5, 0-1) at North Carolina (14-2, 1-0)
When: 9 p.m.
Where: Chapel Hill, NC, Dean Smith Center (21,750)
Fast break: This will mark UNC’s ninth consecutive home game and the Hurricanes just might be the Tar Heels’ most difficult foe of the bunch. Reggie Johnson and Kenny Kadji will challenge Carolina’s talented interior, and the Canes’ athletic backcourt provides excellent balance. But, the Tar Heels are the best team in the country, and coming off a so-so performance against Boston College, will be ready to play.
Forecast: UNC, 91-76.

Andrew Jones’ record: 134-29
