Thorn promoted in Super Rugby coaching ranks at Reds
BRISBANE, Australia (AP) World Cup-winning dual international Brad Thorn has been elevated to assistant coach at the Queensland Reds for the remainder of the Super Rugby season.
Thorn, who played rugby league for Australia before switching to rugby union and helping the New Zealand All Blacks to victory in the 2011 World Cup, has been working with the Brisbane-based club as a development coach this season.
Thorn, who forged a reputation as a powerful forward with a high work-rate, will work with senior coaches Nick Stiles and Matt O'Connor, who took over on an interim basis when Richard Graham was fired earlier in the season. The Reds won their first game in an upset against New Zealand's Highlanders last weekend. Thorn will join the full squad after its two-game tour in South Africa.
