Shore Runner wins $100K Lucky Coin at Saratoga Race Course
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) Brad Grady's Shore Runner got his nose down on the wire after a dramatic stretch run to edge Sharp Sensation and win the third running of the $100,000 Lucky Coin on Monday at Saratoga Race Course.
Blocked in traffic at the top of the stretch, jockey Kendrick Carmouche found a seam between horses and made a desperate dash to the finish to catch front-running Sharp Sensation. It was the third straight victory and first in a stakes for 5-year-old gelding Shore Runner, who ran 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:01 on a firm turf course.
Trained by Joe Sharp and favored at 6-5 in a field of nine older grass sprinters, Shore Runner returned $4.70, $2.80 and $2.40. Sharp Sensation paid $4.80 and $3.40 for second, a half-length in front of Amelia's Wild Ride, who returned $3.50 for third. Sandy'z Slew was another half-length back in fourth.
