Rangers put Borbon on waivers

Texas Rangers outfielder Julio Borbon, who was designated for assignment last week, has been put on outright waivers.

According to a source, the Rangers were unable to find a suitable trade for Borbon before the waiver deadline.

The club must now hope that Borbon can clear waivers so they can outright him to Triple A Round Rock, although that doesn’t seem likely.

Houston has first dibs at Borbon and could use outfield help. The New York Mets and Baltimore have also shown interest in Borbon.

Borbon was the Opening Day centerfielder for Texas in 2010 and 2011. He came to spring training out of options and made the Opening Day roster. He was designated for assignment when the team had to clear a roster spot for Nick Tepesch.
