Panthers struggle in OT games, on the road
Those questioning whether the Panthers are a true playoff contender need only look at Florida's overtime record for ammunition.
Florida lost for the 10th time in overtime on Wednesday, a tough defeat as the Panthers held a 3-1 lead on Colorado during the third period. Yet, like many others, the Avs battled back.
No team in the NHL has more overtime losses than the Panthers.
"We can't keep giving points away," Kris Versteeg said earlier this week.
The Panthers have won three of 13 overtime/shootout games this season.
Florida is also struggling on the road, with seven straight losses away from the BankAtlantic Center. The Panthers have been outscored 32-12 during that slump.
The three-game road trip continues Friday in Chicago, with the Panthers then traveling to Winnipeg to face the Jets on Saturday. The Panthers play their final game before the All-Star break Tuesday at home against the Flyers.
