OSU cheerleader to be disciplined for trying to trip OU player
Bedlam didn't go as expected for Oklahoma State on Saturday, and the aftermath gets worse for one Cowboys cheerleader.
A video went viral last weekend of the cheerleader appearing to attempt to trip Oklahoma linebacker Eric Striker in the end zone as time expired in the fourth quarter.
The cheerleader didn't make him fall, but he'll still face consequences for trying.
Oklahoma State deputy athletic director Dave Martin says the student will be disciplined, according to a report by The Oklahoman.
Martin issued the following statement on Tuesday.
"In response to the inquiry concerning the violation of conference rule 12-3-1, the Oklahoma State University athletics department does not condone, physical or verbally abusive acts toward anyone working, attending or competing in our athletic events. I have personally met with all the members of the OSU spirit team and verbalized our expectations for their representation of our department. I have met individually with the male student involved with the incident and he is extremely apologetic for his involvement. And he understands there will be consequences for his poor judgment and actions. At this time, I feel confident the situation has been thoroughly investigated and that consequences for the involved person are warranted and will be administered."
The game was a bitter loss for Oklahoma State.
The 33-24 defeat to the Sooners kept the Cowboys from winning the Big 12 title and earning a BCS bowl berth.
