New Mexico State hoops falls to UMass 71-57

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP)
-- Anthony Gurley scored 21 points to lead Massachusetts to a 71-57 win over New Mexico State in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off on Saturday night.

The Minutemen (3-0) led 44-23 at halftime and held New Mexico State to 17-of-51 (33.3 percent) shooting from the floor.

The Aggies (2-2) made more free throws (20) than field goals (17) and outscored Massachusetts by seven, 34-27, in the second half.

Javorn Farrell scored 15 points, Terrell Vinson added 10 for the Minutemen -- who shot 26 for 48 (54.2 percent) from the floor and outscored the Aggies in the paint 46-20.

Troy Gillenwater led New Mexico State with 13 points and Hamidu Rahman was the only other player in double figures with 10 points for the Aggies.

Massachusetts led by as many as 23, 48-25, with 17:49 remaining in the second half.
